Created by ordinance in 2007, the Department of Economic Development is responsible for managing the City's revenue-generating properties:

• The Easton's Beach and the Easton's Beach Rotunda Ballroom;
• The City's Harbor facilities;
• The Mary Street parking lot;
• The Gateway Visitor's Center and Garage.

The Department is the City's liaison to the local business community and is an advocate for programs and projects enhancing Newport's value as a heritage tourism destination.
