Engineering Division

The Engineering Division of the Department of Public Services is located on the 3rd floor at City Hall which is home to an extensive archive of roadway and utility data dating back to the late 1800's.

Under the leadership of the City of Newport's Transportation Engineer, Mr. Eric J. Earls, PE, a registered professional engineer with the State of Rhode Island, the engineering office is responsible for the management of the City of Newport's transportation infrastructure located within the public rights-of-way and seawalls inclusive of the roadway and sidewalk network, traffic signals, signs and striping.

The Division is also responsible for preparing construction plans, specifications, and details; reviewing and processing curb cut, excavation, and obstruction permit applications; inspecting construction operations associated with city construction projects; and maintaining division records including plans and maps.
